Dear Colleagues!

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping is celebrating its 110th anniversary. December 31, 1913, the day Sergey Timashev, Minister of Industry and Trade, approved the Charter of the Classification Society Russian Register, marks the founding date of the organization.

Over the course of its more than a century-long history, RS has contributed to high navigational safety standards, security of human life at sea and environmental protection. These basic principles of the organization remain unchanged. Now, a new generation of highly qualified and devoted specialists continues the work of prominent shipbuilding scientists and industry experts who stood at the origins of our classification society.

Throughout its existence, RS has passed its historical milestones together with the industry, closely cooperating with design organizations and shipyards, shipping companies, equipment manufacturers, scientific and educational centers. Together we contributed to the implementation of new technologies, production methods and cutting-edge projects all the while creating a safe transportation environment. Therefore, this anniversary is our joint celebration, our common date!

The challenges of the past decade have tested the strength of RS, but did not weaken it; on the contrary, spurring greater development. With the active support of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, RS underwent a full-scale transformation to find new points of growth and go beyond classification. At present, RS is confidently pursuing its new concept "more than just a class" and, alongside traditional activities, is actively working in the field of scientific research, broad range engineering consulting and certification.

We would like to thank all of our colleagues and business partners for their fruitful cooperation as we continue to strive to remain their reliable aide and collectively contribute to the industry's development.

Sergey Kulikov
