Classification society Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) was established on 31 December 1913. In 1996, RS was recognized by the European Union.

RS has been authorized to carry out statutory surveys by the maritime administrations of 63 countries, 14 countries among them being EU members.

Main objectives:

  • ensuring safety of life at sea;
  • ensuring safe navigation of ships;
  • providing safe carriage of goods by sea and in inland waters;
  • promoting environmental protection.

Representation in Finland was established in April 1947.

Areas of activity:

  • appraisal of technical documentation;
  • survey of ships and floating facilities, as well as materials and products during manufacture, construction, operation, including conversion, modernization and repair, as well as issuing the relevant documents;
  • statutory surveys and issuing the relevant documents on behalf of maritime administrations of countries - parties to the relevant conventions;
  • expertise of industrial safety of design documentation and technical devices within the system of ROSTECHNADZOR, certification of products within the system of ROSTECHREGULIROVANIE and the RS voluntary certification system;confirmation of compliance of RS suppliers' quality systems with the RS requirements and certification of management systems of organizations associated with the RS activities for compliance with the requirements of the international standards;
  • certification of safety management systems of shipping companies and ships for compliance with the ISM Code;
  • certification of ship security system and associated security equipment for compliance with the ISPS Code;
  • cost appraisal;
  • independent expertise;
  • technical expertise for underwriters.
