The Nakhodka Ship Repair Yard, Primorsky Krai, held a launching ceremony for the crab fishing vessel Mys Navarin, project CCa5712LS, built to the class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) on request of the Antey Group. The event took place on November 23, 2023. Pavel Shikhov, Head of the RS Far East Branch, and Andrey Churayev, Head of the RS Nakhodka District Office, represented RS at the ceremony.

RS has considerable practical experience in surveying fishing and crab fishing vessels at their design, construction and operation stages. From 2017 to 2022, over 50 units of the high-tech fishing fleet were built under RS survey. Today, such vessels make up almost a third of the total fleet being constructed to the RS class; construction, including serial construction, is carried out at shipyards from Kaliningrad to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

"RS continues to actively participate in the fishing fleet renewal program. RS has reviewed the technical documentation of more than 20 different projects since the program’s launch, including proposals for unique innovative vessels which utilize advanced technical and technological initiatives as well as fundamentally new architectural types. Based on its survey experience, RS develops requirements with a view to the current demands of the field. When updating RS Rules, the feedback received from the industry is analyzed in minute detail," remarked Pavel Shikhov.

It is worth noting that the official laying down of eight project SSa5712LS crab fishing vessels at the Nakhodka Ship Repair Yard took place in May 2020. In the fall of 2022, the first three vessels were launched. By the end of 2023, the Nakhodka Ship Repair Yard plans to launch another three crab fishing vessels. The hulls of the remaining two ships in the series have been formed and in December 2023 they will be rolled to the outfitting slipway for finalizing construction.
